Potential to Kinetic, 1 for 2

This morning, I opened a letter from the Ontario government telling me that I didn’t receive the OGS scholarship. Or should that be the OG Scholarship? Was Dr. Dre, Ph.D., on the review board? Anyway, well, that sucks.

But financial news isn’t all bad today. My Google Summer of Code proposal to the Thousand Parsec project was accepted! Of course, this is far more exciting non-financially: it’s a chance (and motivation) to really get involved in a sizeable free software project, something I’ve been itching to do since high school. It’s also a major learning opportunity for distributed development, an area in which I’m conspicuously lacking, and of course, general C++ and Python coding skills.

Speaking of Thousand Parsec, I successfully ran the server on my SPARC machine today, which is good news for my project, since it’s nice to be able to test a remote configuration protocol… well.. remotely. The related ebuilds are now keyworded ~sparc in the overlay.
